    Chapel of the Holy Angels

It is for this chapel to the tower from the west. Its dome was completed from 1653 to 1660, but it seems that eventually deteriorated to such a degree that the Marquis de Mancera had to rebuild it completely, as in the testimony quoted above and sent to Spain in the letter. the viceroy of April 11, 1667, appears to be rebuilt on the bow had to load the vault of the chapel of San Miguel, which was closed on July 17, 1665, and November 17 of that year was completed vault of the chapel.

Rebuilt the vault of the chapel was decorated with Baroque altars dedicated to the Holy Angels and St. Michael the Archangel mainly as head of all of them.

The dedication of the chapel is described as inimitable by the author of the article about the chapels of the cathedral, located in the 1874 calendar Galván. It says on page 61: "The seventh chapel is dedicated to the Holy Angels. The altar are statues of the seven princes, whose names consist of Holy Scripture and disclosures about fair especially to Father Antonio Duque, rector of a church in Palermo, where he discovered a painting of the seven archangels painted on a wall, which father had revelation of the names and being in Rome of Pope Pius IV got was a temple dedicated to the Baths of Diocletian and dedicated to St. Mary of the Angels with title of cardinal.

It’s funny and give notice of the names of these sovereign spirits with his performance. The first is San Miguel. Power of God. Who is like God? Commander in chief of the heavenly host in his battles with Lucifer. The second is Gabriel, strength of God, who brought great ambassador plenipotentiary to treat of the Incarnation of the Word of God. The third, Rafael, Medicine of God, where it comes to men’s health. The fourth, Uriel, Fire of God, with which inflames hearts with divine love and was the one who threw our parents of paradise. The fifth is Salathiel, Speaker to God for the forgiveness of sins. The sixth is Gehudiel, imparting rewarding the righteous crowns and intimate the judgment of the damned. E seventh is surnamed Baraquiel, Praise God.

The latter three appeared to Abraham and revealed the mystery of the Trinity Augusta. "

In 1711 the chapel was a fire that totally ruined, to the extent that the silver lamp in it there was shattered. In the council of 4 December of that year it was suggested that, since it is known that there is another person willing to donate new lamp, be delivered to him the shards of the old with a silver inkstand and sandbox that existed in the same chapel and Now the lawyer kept Robles, sacristan.

    Inside the chapel of angels.

Dr. Jose Torres Vergara, heir of Don Juan Caballero y Osio, arranged the chapel as seen today, with Baroque altarpieces built based on twisted columns surrounded by branches, the year of 1713. The paintings that adorn the altars are due to the great artist Juan Correa, who signs some of them in 1714. Avaloran retablos niches, and stewed carvings of the seven princes and the Blessed Virgin of considerable merit.

He chose this chapel for the famous final resting Mexican Jose Damián Ortiz de Castro and she can still be seen in his grave. But his wishes were not met, since it is buried in the parish church of Tacubaya. Hopefully there will be an act of justice to the author of the facade of the cathedral, moving his remains to the place where he wanted they should rest until the hour of reckoning.
