What is the difference between civil law and common law?

What is the difference between civil law and common law?

I believe that civil law is used in Latin America, much of Europe and Francophone countries, as while common law is used in Anglo countries. However, what are the main differences between these two systems? Please don’t just leave a link, please summarize the differences. Thank you.
