Is someone claiming to support equality but rejoice at a law that addresses one gender issues a hypocrite?

And calls the law an important victory for his/her gender.

if it is illegal for gender x to eat ice-cream than you cancel the law that makes it illegal. This is actually in perfect conformity with supporting equality and very different from supporting a law that enables one gender to get ice cream for free as an example.
