An attorney is someone appointed to act in your stead – as in “power of attorney”

A lawyer is anybody who practices law.

A solicitor deals with the client in most matters, the barrister deals with the court proceedings on instruction from the solicitor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrister

An advocate is basically anyone that acts on the behalf of some person or cause.
